DasRADIAL (LU)

DasRADIAL creates a sonic manifesto against the darker sides of modern society. Through drifting synths and driving beats, the project tackles some of today’s most urgent themes: digital mass surveillance, the climate crisis, the rise of extremism, fast fashion, drug culture – delivered relentlessly, multilayered, and with uncompromising directness.

Musician and actor Max Thommes, who spent ten years as the drummer of INBORN!, produced by acclaimed producer Ross Robinson, has been pursuing his own artistic path since 2019. Under the name DasRADIAL, he builds a dystopian musical universe. After numerous projects for German state theatres, he also composed the title track for the Arte documentary UNTERM_RADAR. With electronic beats and razor-sharp lyrics, he now seeks a fusion of artistic persona and live musical performance. DasRADIAL’s sound blends dark wave, Neue Deutsche Welle, techno, and pop—resulting in music that feels both retro and radically modern. The album was produced by Aaron Ahrends (Say Yes Dog). The lyrics—at times cutting and precise, at times poetic—link keywords into complex chains of associations, challenging listeners while leaving space for interpretation.

Max Thommes currently performs together with drummer Wouter Rentema of Bonaparte.
