The animals — the hare, the horse and the bull — refer to the decorative elements of the Štvanice Footbridge, created by sculptor Aleš Hvízdal. As you know, the bridge connects Holešovice and Karlín and is adorned with sculptures reflecting the history and the very name of the island. Specifically: hares appear on the side leading toward Karlín, horses on the side facing Holešovice, and bulls along the railing. These motifs reference the historic hunts that once took place here, as well as the area’s long-standing ties to agriculture and horse breeding.
